Cooking Well with Diabetes – Online Class

Chicken Tacos, Baked Catfish and Amazing Coconut Pie…sound good? These are just a few of the recipes offered in AgriLife Extension’s Cooking Well with Diabetes series.

Healthy meals don’t have to be complicated, time-consuming, expensive or tasteless – even if you’re managing conditions such as Diabetes.

During this time of Social Distancing, many people are cooking for themselves or family members at home… possibly running out of ideas, and probably ‘binge-ing’ on more than just television reruns. So, to support that effort, we’re offering our Cooking Well with Diabetes series in a virtual format. The four-session series is designed for individuals with Diabetes and those who prepare meals for them.

It can be challenging to come up with meal ideas – especially when you have special dietary needs like Diabetes. But the series isn’t just for those managing the disease. These recipes are healthy AND flavorful, so we’re excited about offering the Cooking Well with Diabetes series to anyone interested via online classes.

The program will be offered during the noon hour on Wednesdays beginning May 6th and will conclude on May 27th . Sessions will be recorded so those who register and want to watch at a later time may do so.

Session titles for Cooking Well with Diabetes include: Carbohydrate Foods; Making Recipes with Fat Better for You; Side Dishes (including how to reduce sodium and increase fiber); and Celebrating Sensibly with Diabetes.

The cost of the program is $15 for all four classes which will include interactive recipe demonstrations,  handouts and copies of recipes such as Baked Catfish, Chicken Tacos and Amazing Coconut Pie.

Registrants will receive an electronic link giving them access to the live class and other course materials.
