Hay Show

Once again it is time for our annual Wise County Hay Show.  You should always test your hay to know what the nutrient content is and know how to supplement the hay you feed to meet your cattle’s nutrient requirements, if a supplement is needed at all.  A lot of times we feed a supplement and it is not necessary because sometimes our hay is good enough to meet the protein and energy needs required.  Without a test we would never know that we didn’t need to supplement.  Besides a great education on producing hay from our gifted speakers, a big part of the Hay Show is you the hay producer taking a sample of your hay and entering it into our contest to be tested and judged.  We will give out the results and awards at the Hay Show on Sept 7th.   We will also be going over the results so you understand what it all means.  Also, we will auction the winning hay off at our annual Ranchers Gathering on September 25th.   So get signed up for both events.

Get your hay samples in to our office before August 18th, the cost per sample this year is $22 with a one-time entry fee of $10, all is explained in the attached hay letter and Hay Entry Form.  See attached form to fill out and bring with your hay sample to our office.  You may enter up to 4 samples.  We will send all the samples to the lab at one time.  We have some good prizes to award along with bragging rights in your “Quest to Produce the Best”.

Get signed up today for our Hay Show to be held on Thursday, September 7 from 8:30 to 2pm at the Wise County Fairgrounds.  Cost is $20 unless you enter hay in the contest and then it cost you $10 entry fee and you get admittance to the Hay Show Program.  A sponsored lunch and 3 CEU’s are available.

Come by our office to register and drop off your samples, or give us a call at 940-627-3341.

Proceeds made from the Hay Show go to help our Wise County kids in Agriculture and 4-H throughout the year!
